Background

The existing plane toilet waste dump site was being relocated to allow for the storage of airfreight pods in pallet racking in the same location.

Project Challenges

The pump station needed to replicate the existing waste dump pump station in a new location. The site itself was adjacent the Cooks River on reclaimed swamp land. This meant that the pump station ballast would need to be suitable for constant wet hole conditions and a low quality of backfill. The installation also needed to be done in a short space of time to reduce the dewatering costs.

The location on site was compact and in constant use during the construction phase, this meant that having trucks and cranes on the site for long periods of time would have been problematic for site users. Being a secure site also made fewer truck entries preferable.

Solution

Mullaly supplied a Ø3.0 m x 5.0 m Deep Wet Well and Valve Pit Combo with two Ø100 mm discharge Homa Pumps.

The benefits of this solutions were:

  • The Mullaly pump station was supplied to site completely fitted out, which meant the only requirements were the external connection of pipework, electrical connection and final pump installation.
  • A very fast installation time of under one hour from being craned into the hole, leveled and backfill commencing.
  • This fast installation time meant cranes were on site for only a short amount of time reducing costs and improving site safety.
  • Less time needed for dewatering on site, therefore reducing pump running costs and improving asset availability to other sites or reducing on hire costs.
