Background

The Sino Iron Ore Project involved the construction of a mine 100km south west of Karratha to export iron ore through Cape Preston. At peak construction the project employed 4000 people which called for the installation of a significant accommodation village which included a new sewage system being installed.

Project Challenges

Being in such a remote location there were constraints in the supply of ready-mix concrete, skilled labour to install pumps and pipework therefore the more work that could be pre manufactured off site in this location the better.

The solution

Mullaly supplied 2 x 3m x 5m Deep Wet Well / Valve Pit Combo with 2 100mm discharge Homa Pumps.

The benefits of this solutions were:

  • The Mullaly pump station was supplied to site completely fitted out which meant the only requirements being the external connection of pipework, electrical connection and final pump installation.
  • Reduced time for installation from up over 6 weeks with in-situ concrete to under 1 week with the Mullaly FRP solution
  • A lot less labour was required to install the Mullaly pump station to this remote site saving money
  • Less time needed for cranes on site therefore reducing costs and improving site safety
